After years of deliberation, Wausau officials approved a plan to replace three aging outdoor pools at a cost collectively of $9 million. Following the upgrades of two other local swimming pools, Schulenburg Pool closed to undergo its own set of improvements.  Each pool closed for one season, for Schulenburg Pool that meant closing during the 2016 season.

Acapulco Pools was awarded the contract for the improvement of Schulenburg Pool in the Spring (2016) and by early Summer, construction of the new and improved facility had commenced.

Schulenburg Pool celebrated its grand opening in 2017. The community gathered to enjoy the brand-new outdoor swimming pool complete with designated lap and leisure areas, two water slides and a vibrant Vortex play structure.

All areas of the swimming pool are fully accessible. Zero depth beach entry leads swimmers into the shallow, splash pool, while an accessibility lift is located near the lap area, allowing swimmers of all ages and physical abilities the opportunity to enjoy this new community amenity.
