The Milton Sports Centre first opened to the public in 2003 and was fully equipped to offer a range of recreational activities to the residents of Milton including a skating arena, gymnastics facility and a beach volleyball court. Following the completion of a $30M facility wide expansion project in 2011, a brand-new aquatic facility was added to the list of amenities.
The facility was designed and constructed to meet the future community demand. The 136,000 square-foot expansion project was divided into two phases. Phase 2 saw the addition of an indoor lap pool and a recreational therapy pool to facilitate swimming lessons and aquatic growth in the community.
Joining the Ball Construction team as the Pool Contractor, Acapulco Pools was responsible for the cast in place concrete, backfilling and the supply and installation of the mechanical system which included regenerative filters, UV system, CO2 system, variable frequency drives and a regenerative filter system.
The new state-of-the-art aquatic centre was built to FINA standards and included the installation of a diving board, starting blocks and a Colorado Timing System, allowing for accurate (up to the millisecond) results for major swimming competitions and training purposes.
The recreational therapy pool was built with a hydrotherapy bench to rehabilitate athletes on site and zero depth beach entry to increase accessibility at the facility. The tumble buckets, also located in the recreational therapy pool, were added to increase the family fun factor.
